This may surprise a lot of home owners who have had to live with and have accepted insects, bugs and other creepy-crawlies as a fact of home life but the truth is that you really do not have to put up with them all the days of your life. You don’t have to accept a reality where your house is their house because it doesn’t have to be that way. Given in this article are the top strategies that you can employ to keep them uninvited buggers out:

1. Figure out what they need and cut them off from their supplies – This strategy comes from understanding the enemy which should be something that all home owners spend a little effort on. Most household pests are also outdoor creatures so they simply choose to live inside your home because they find what they need to survive inside it. Cockroaches love the bits of food and water that we leave on the kitchen counter, tables and floor. Simply keeping those areas clean will deprive cockroaches of their sustenance and will force them to look elsewhere. House centipedes are bugs that eat other bugs (like cockroaches, spiders, etc.) hence, one way to get rid of them is to get rid of other bugs (I know this sounds loopy but please read on)!

2. Prevent the bugs that are outside from getting in – This is an all-important strategy that will spell the success of your pest control efforts. There is no getting around this step because you need to isolate the ones that are already inside before you go for the kill. This way, no new specimens are able to find their way inside your home and increase the population of those that are already inside. This is one of the tougher steps, too, because you will need to check every millimeter of your home for cracks, holes, gaps that they can use to gain access to your house. Find appropriate ways to plug those entry points using plasters, glue or cement.

3. When you are confident that no more outsiders will add to the ones already inside your home, you can now go for the kill and employ the chemical strategy to kill them off. This will not involve bug or pest sprays as the main strategy because they do not really work for the long term. What you will need is stuff like boric acid and baits (e.g. cockroach baits) that poisons bugs and makes them take the poison to their hiding places so the others could get it as well. This is an effective way to kill entire families of insects.

With consistent effort to doing the above strategies, you can be sure to reduce and eradicate any infestation you may have inside your home. The dream of a bug-free home can be more than a dream if you follow the above steps.
