It doesn’t take a genius to know that our water supply is depleting. We are made fully aware as much as educated to the kind of malevolence that’s happening on the world’s water supply and known to the perils we would have to face. But apparently, despite the conscious efforts of advocates to inform us, we still neglect the environmental responsibility that should follow after. It is time to act.

And there is nothing more practical in aiding the endeavor to save mother earth’s waters and herself than to begin it in your own dwellings. Never mind the high-tech water-saving gadgets to purchase; essentially you don’t need that for starters. Just some old-fashioned manual things to do. Here are some:

  1. Check for faucet or pipe leaks
These problems are often overlooked due to apparent negligibility. But the fact is it actually wastes 20 gallons of water per day in accumulative basis. Larger leaks could even waste gallons more.
  2. Don’t use showers or take shorter ones
Free-flowing water is one of the major contributors of water non-conservation. It saves when you turn-off the shower when soaping then turn it back on when already rinsing or use the more conventional way of using pails and basins which saves-up more water.
  3. Store Water in Containers
A very helpful mechanism in conserving water. Like what was mentioned earlier, free-flowing water wastes a lot. In order to minimize the tendencies of leaving faucets and other home-based water outlets dripping and wasting, it is wise to store them up in containers. It gives you discipline on water consumption, using only the appropriate amount required for a certain task.
  4. Wash dishes by Hands
Instead of using dishwashers to wash the dishes, take a basin and full it with water needed for the amount of plates to be washed.
  5. Deep-soak the Lawn
When watering the lawn, water it long enough that the water will surely seep into the roots of the grass. In that way you don’t have to water your lawn on super-regular basis. The grass on the lawn will have enough water reserves to survive until the next watering.
  6. Water the Lawn only when needed
One way to know if your lawn already needs watering is to step on the ground and feel. If it bounces back, it means it doesn’t need watering yet. If it stays flat, then the lawn is ready for watering. Letting the grass grow taller from time to time helps water retention to the soil.
  7. Don’t hose the car when washing
Hosing your car while washing is one speedy way to waste water. Instead, bring-in a pail of soapy water to wash the car. This simple practice can save up to as much as 150 gallons of water per wash.

There are a dime-a-dozen ways to conserve water and surely it doesn’t take much effort from you to execute them. Take part in saving the water reserves of the planet. Start it today.
