We learn throughout our whole life, but the earlier we start the better. You can readily teach your child to read when they are young. There is nothing more rewarding for a parent then to see their youngster learn new things. However, you have to go about the training with the necessary caution since you would not want to frustrate your child and put them off reading. You should not push your child into learning to read. You have to make them interested first. Reading to your child from an early age is the best way in which you can do this. You do not have to restrict yourself to reading bed time stories. You can readily devote one hour in the afternoon for reading to your youngster. It is best for you to use beautifully illustrated books so that the child’s interest is enhanced even more.

You teach your child to read by taking very small steps. You have to make sure that the youngster is familiar with a range of words. You have to start by showing the child books with pictures and pronounce the names of the things which you can see. In this way the youngster will remember how the words sound, so it will be easier for them to pronounce them and to associate them with the letters later on.

The most important thing you have to teach your child is to associate the written letter with the sound. You have to use all the human senses for the purpose. More importantly, you have to start by teaching your child one letter at the time so that they do not get puzzled. It is important for you to show your youngster cards with objects that start with the respective letter. Remember, your purpose is for your child to memorize this particular letter and sound and not the spelling of the entire word. The youngster just has to pronounce it.

It is a great idea for you to let your child be creative with using the word. You can readily get them to draw the letter and stick pictures with images of all the words they have learnt. In the end, there will be a great scrapbook that your child will like to go over again and again. It is also important for you to read stories that contain abundantly the particular letter that you are teaching to the youngster. Just make sure you stress on the letter a bit while reading.

Once you have taught your child all 26 letters of the alphabet, you can start teaching them actual words. Start with the simplest ones that have just three letters. The ones with a vowel between two consonants are the easiest. It is a good idea for you to get a specialized book for children that comes with large letters and fun pictures next to them. In this way you can teach your child just a number of words at a time. This will make it easier for the youngster to memorize them.
