Top Tips on How to Start an Indoor Garden
A lot of people don’t own a garden, nor have a balcony big and suitable enough to allow them to grow flowers, herbs, vegetables or even fruits on it. An indoor, if started and planned properly might help to still the craving after an own homestead. And helps even to save some money by growing for example your own, fresh herbs. So here’s my top indoor garden tips:
Location, location, location
Like in real estate, choosing the right location for your indoor garden is paramount. Look not only on the light situation (plants need light to grow!) but also on how much weight the floor can carry (you don’t want to add your indoor garden to your neighbors living room by crashing through the ceiling).
Choose the right plants
Growing herbs, strawberries and other small plants in an indoor garden is easy. More difficult it is to grow potatoes and apples indoors. Choose your challenges wisely!
Light
If you don’t have enough natural light available, you might consider to buy artificial lights that help your plants to grow. LED lights are a first choice solution for indoor garden lights.
Seasons
Even if you are less weather and climate dependent with an indoor garden, chances are you will be more successful if you go with the seasons instead of against them. So, sow in spring and harvest in autumn/fall.
Care
Don’t just sow and forget, learn to properly care for your plants. Research about plant fertilizers, watering, pruning and grow lights for indoor gardens by reading as many resources as possible. And by, most importantly, by applying the learned things to daily gardener life. Having your own garden, if only indoors, is a great way to save money and/or to improve the quality of your food as you know exactly from where the food you are eating and the herbs you are using, comes from.
