We all go to sleep. Sleeping is a crucial part of our everyday life. It is our body’s natural way of healing and compensating energy that was lost. If we don’t sleep, our system will surely suffer.

We usually sleep to relax; to at last relieve ourselves from that stress caused by a hard day’s work. But little did we know that sleeping could also cause us stress. Of course we do not recognize it because we are fast asleep. But have you ever waked up one morning having a stiff neck or feeling a strong back ache? Well, that’s caused by your sleeping position.

Don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault. Apparently, you cannot always adjust yourself when you’re asleep because YOU’RE asleep. The fact is, every known sleeping position has negative effects on our neck and back. Back sleeping, the most usual position, endorses snoring and breathing difficulties, and gives us back ache. Side sleeping may combat snoring and sleeping apnea but it gives you stiff neck and painful shoulders. Stomach sleeping, on the other hand, gives neck problems and it’s also proven to be the cause of many infant sudden deaths.

Now don’t be scared. Whatever these positions might cause you in the morning, you still have to sleep. What you must do is to lessen the stress that might arise in your sleeping position. You can do this in many ways. One of which is through the orthopedic pillow.

An orthopedic pillow is commonly used to treat or avoid neck and back problems. It ensures that the body is having a safer and healthier sleep. Treating sleep apnea and heartburn, and improving breathing and blood circulation are some of the therapeutic claims of this pillow.

There are many orthopedic pillows on the market which could satisfy your needs. One classification of these pillows is based on the material from which they’re made. These are memory foam pillows, fiber foam pillows, and ripped pillows.

A memory foam pillow, made from foam materials, is a body heat-sensitive pillow that follows the shape of the person lying on it. It is known to treat spinal problems.

On the other hand, a fiber orthopedic pillow, a hypoallergenic pillow made from fiber, is most suitable to people who tend to sleep on their side. This pillow is softer than a normal pillow, making it comfortable to your ears and jaws.

The last kind is the ripped pillow. This type of pillow has openings which allow air to flow around the neck. Because of this, it allows neck bones and muscles to relax while sleeping.

Of course, there are other kinds of orthopedic pillows on the market. But these are just auxiliaries. It would still be better to consult your doctor, most preferably an orthopedist, about this matter.

But now you know that a hard working person like you indeed needs a relaxing sleep without worrying about a stiff neck in the morning. Everyone deserves a sound sleep, including you.
