The dawn of the guitar era indeed has begun producing exceptional artists fostering a new face to the understanding of music. Also that a lot of them have become virtuosos and several made marks in the music hall of fame. But alongside the rise of these wielders of this craft is a question it begs. Who is or are truly the greatest of them all?
This is not an easy question for anyone to answer for the variations of the art are greatly relatively different. Each perspective of each artist is uniquely but equally great to all the others. The comparison of greatness in musical terms would be like comparing two same things but of different colors; it immediately becomes an issue of individual appreciation -utterly depending on the preference of the listener. The list that will follow later is a list of guitar players that have become great in the genius of their own musical styling.

Blues has never been heard in such a way with rock and psychedelia the way he did. Hendrix has been indeed a founder of the rock blues’ emergence and his guitar wielding, a legend in itself. His musical styling has never been more unique in capturing melodrama into a riff.

Clapton has played blues in the most melodic in all ways. Apart from being very fluent in every blues style, the variations of his solos blend his songs into a color giving an impression of blues styling swimming along with the songs instead of it being stopped cold.

Along with his guitar Lucille, the King became famed to a styling of blues both popular and solely original at once. His emphasis on vibrato placed title of the blues legend that made her guitar sang like a persona along with him performing on stage.

Given the title, “the most famed guitar hero of the modern age”, Steve Vai’s contemporary solo styling hasn’t only merged several genres but also gave birth to different new variations unique only to his playing, yet, most coveted. His ways have also paved way to the emergence of modern metal riffs.

Lead guitarist of the former band Mr.Big, immediately after the disbandment, went to solo on stage and eventually claimed reputation for his self. Perhaps one of the forefathers of alternative rock leads. This guy can literally drill a lick.
- Les Paul Gibson
Gibson is a legend and the primary engineer to guitar’s evolution. The father of the Gibson guitars designed the first of the electric guitars which transcended to modern forms we use today. Both the music and the guitar industry have much to owe from his passion to better the arts. Les Paul is definitely a legend in blues as his styling is much revered and reflected to the kind of styling we have at present.
Guitar playing would have never been evolved to the way it is now had not for this key people that made their way to the lineage of great guitar playing. They maybe the best on the list and maybe not but they have claimed their and titles right due to the legends they have made. Nevertheless, the perception of who are the greatest remains to be our discretion.
