Studying can be a boring process for some while others may see it as a great challenge to overcome. Ultimately studying that is done effectively will help a student pass well or fail really badly.

There are countless books out there in the market that offer many techniques on this subject. It helps though to know a few simple techniques. While there may be other top tips available, a good starting point is with the top five tips provided below:

1) Organize your time effectively. This is perhaps the key in establishing a routine that will allow you to become disciplined while studying. Not keeping to a discipline in terms of time will always mean that there will be some form of procrastination. Always organize some time table that you can follow.

2) Work more on your stronger subjects. Yes, this is true. The popular misconception is that the focus should be on the weaker areas. However, if you work more on your stronger areas this will drastically improve your overall scores, in any academic examination. Focusing on the weaker areas will make you unnecessarily stressed.

3) Find short cut methods. Finding short cuts to solving a problem or getting an answer will mean additional time that will be saved during an examination. This additional time will help students use a little more time on the harder questions.

4) Study a lot of past papers. Studying past papers gets you used to formats and question types of the exam that will be written. Try to get a lot of past papers that are quite recent. You don’t want to get a past paper from 1975 when you are writing a paper in 2011; the content would have changed drastically since.

5) Test yourself under exam conditions. You can write mock papers or tests under the same time as the actual exam, keeping strictly to the time period allowed for the paper. This has two effects. The first effect is that you adapt yourself to the pace and intensity of the test. The second effect is that by the time you arrive for the actual exam, you will be more calm and confident to do it successfully.
