Peripheral vision decreases with age and may interfere with social interactions and physical activities. Older adults suffering from loss of peripheral vision may not notice someone sitting next to them. They may also have difficulty finding objects out of their range of vision. Eye is a complex and compact structure measuring about 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter. It receives millions of pieces of information about the outside world which are quickly processed by the brain.

Contact lenses come in different types, and falls into two main groups- soft contact lenses and gas permeable contact lenses.

1. Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
It is more rigid and durable, made up of silicone polymers, allowing oxygen to circulate to the cornea of the eye. It maintains the shape and offer clearer vision for some types of eye corrections. To achieve maximum comfort it should be used everyday.

2. Soft Contact Lenses
It is a thin, gel- like lens that conforms the shape of the eyes. It is more flexible, comfortable and easier use. It tends to stay in place better than gas permeable making it the perfect choice if you’re participating in sports activities or similarly have an active lifestyle. These lenses come in single use, daily wear and extended wear types. Soft contact lenses are not effective in correcting some vision problems such as high degrees of astigmatism.

* Single Use Contact Lenses
It is the most expensive of all soft contact lenses. It is ideally packaged for a single one-day use only, allowing you to have the luxury of wearing a new pair every day. Like any other contact lenses, you need to remove and discard them before going to sleep at night. You need not to use any special solution to use these lenses, as an adequate amount of solution is contained in the packaged for one day.

* Daily Wear Contact Lenses
It is designed for daily use and could be reused from one to four weeks, depending on the design and manufacturer specifications. Lenses that are designed for four weeks of use tend to be somewhat stiffer than those designed for seven-day use. Daily wear contact lenses are being used during morning and are also removed every night. You need to clean it every day and replace it in regular basis because proteins and micro-organisms collect on the surface of daily wear contact lenses.

*Extended Wear Contact Lenses
This type of contact lenses allows oxygen to reach you cornea even while you’re sleeping. But the safety of wearing corrective contact lenses was questioned by doctors since it is being used round the clock.
