If you own a car and you drive then the chances are a sat nav will make driving around simpler and safer for you. Let’s take a look at what a sat nav can offer you:

Navigation. Having a sat nav is like having a competent co-pilot. You don’t need to worry about having a map, flicking through it to try and find the starting point, then finding your destination and finally having to work out some kind of sensible route. No. Instead all you need to do is tell the sat nav where you want to go by entering in the zip/post code, or the address. The sat nav will work out the best route to take, taking into account your preferences.

Safety. If you drive on your own, or rely on somebody that isn’t good at using a map, then the chances are you will need to refer to the map or directions while you are driving. This is not safe. With a sat nav, after you have entered the address you don’t even need to look at the screen; just listen to the spoken instructions. You can concentrate on the road – which is definitely safer.

Portability. A decent map is a bulky thing. Not only that but they can’t be updated without buy a brand new map. If you have a local map and need to travel long-distance the map just may not have those routes. A sat nav is a small device, around the size of your palm. It contains full maps for your country and maybe even more. Most of them can also be updated. Just connect the device to your computer and you can download the latest maps.

If you were undecided about purchasing a sat nav, hopefully that’s given you some ideas on why it would be a good idea. If you’re not sure which one to buy, I can highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 255WT. It’s great sat nav, very simple and easy to use and with all the features you’re likely to need.
